Receive the children in reverence, educate them in love, let them go forth in freedom

Playgarden
Little Roots Play Garden provides holistic childcare that places the young child’s head, heart, and hands at the center of importance. In our “home away from home,” children spend their days in the garden, our outdoor playhouse, and the warm comfort of my home. Through imaginative play, singing, movement, games, stories, cooking and handcrafts, we discover the world together in a rhythm that nourishes the whole child.
Recognizing that young children learn through imitation, I gently model meaningful work rooted in daily life—cooking and baking, gardening, nature observation, caring for the environment, and creating simple, beautiful handcrafts. In this way, the children in my care are lovingly held, guided, and nurtured, with our relationship extending beyond the classroom to embrace the whole family.

Play Hours
Little Roots runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00am to 3:00pm and runs year around, breaks coinciding with the San Juan School District apart from a three week summer break. I provide 2 daily snacks (all food provided will be organic) art materials and school supplies, and parent conferences if requested by either party.
Ages Served
At Little Roots, I welcome children ages 2 to 6 years old into a mixed-age group of 5-6 children that feels much like a family. In this nurturing environment, younger children learn naturally by observing and imitating the older ones, while the older children develop confidence, empathy, and a sense of responsibility as they care for and guide the younger ones. This gentle, multi-age setting supports social and emotional growth, deepens relationships, and fosters a strong sense of belonging—just like in a family.
Curriculum
My curriculum will follow the seasons and will include a nature focus, living arts, art, songs, stories, and festivals for the family. Each season we will make nature observations, collecting natural treasures and observing each seasons magic together. We will use our collections of nature for our art, recipes, and make a seasonal nature table to create a space of reverence for the current season. We will watercolor, mold bees wax, sew and hand knit. Each season I will repeat the same stories allowing them to be imbedded into their hearts and minds. Each season will have a circle that will include games singing and sensory experiences for them to learn how to be apart of a group and discover the beauty of being in a community.
